Program Description

Event Details

Did you know you can fly fish for trout in Iowa? Iowa actually has over 100 miles of publicly accessible cold water trout streams in NE Iowa in a region called the Driftless. Trout streams are regularly stocked with rainbow trout during the summer and there are naturally reproducing brown and brook trout. Brook trout are native to Iowa.

Join anglers from Trout Unlimited North Bear Chapter and Central Iowa Fly Fishers (CIFF) on Saturday, June 8 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm to try your hand at fly tying and casting a fly rod at the library pond. All you need to bring is your interest in learning about the sport and your enthusiasm. Fly rods and fly tying materials will be provided to use during the class. Please register for this free activity. Kids 10+ may attend with a parent. Please register both people for the class. Registration for this free class opens up on Saturday, May 18 at 9:00am.

Trout Unlimited North Bear Chapter and CIFF partners with public, business and government interests to enhance and protect the critical environments needed to restore the state's native trout populations. Working together to benefit the common good of Iowa fisheries and the environment is a cornerstone of TU and CIFF restoration philosophy.
